Ever choose to play small because it’s just easier and no one is pushing you to step into your potential? To do the thing that is outside your comfort zone and feels overwhelming? You’re not alone.
It’s been said that we are the average of the five people we spend the most time with. The best way to grow is to surround ourselves with those that share similar goals, ambition, and mindset. There is power in surrounding yourself with people who see your value, and remind you of it. So how do we do that? Let’s talk about it!

As military spouses, we often find ourselves juggling multiple responsibilities, managing schedules, and taking care of our families. However, it’s important to remember that we are more than just a caretaker. Each one of us has unique talents, passions, and dreams that deserve to be pursued. By embracing our potential and acknowledging that we are capable of achieving great things, we can break free from feelings of frustration, stagnation, and unfulfillment.
Jim Rohn once said, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” The company we keep significantly influences our mindset, motivation, and aspirations. While it’s essential to have a supportive community that understands the challenges of military life, it’s equally important to surround ourselves with people who inspire and motivate us to reach for our dreams. Seek out individuals who are driven, goal-oriented, and focused on personal growth. Their energy and determination will uplift and empower you to pursue your own goals.
Finding like-minded individuals can be challenging as military spouses, considering the frequent relocations and the need to establish new connections. However, building a supportive network is crucial for personal and professional growth. Seek out military spouse organizations, community groups, or online platforms that facilitate networking and provide a sense of belonging. Engage with others who are striving to make a difference, advocating for military families, and creating positive change. By connecting with others who share similar aspirations, you can find encouragement, support, and valuable resources to help you thrive.
Living a purposeful life as a military spouse requires intentional decision-making and prioritization. While circumstances may limit certain opportunities or present challenges, it’s essential to take ownership of your journey and make the most of where you are right now. Accept that the military lifestyle is complex and requires sacrifices, but don’t let that deter you from pursuing your dreams and living with purpose. You don’t have to wait for specific seasons or external validation to start working towards your goals. Begin by gaining clarity on your unique identity, values, and passions, and explore how you can integrate them into your current circumstances.
Remember that you are not alone on this path.Together, we can empower each other, create meaningful change, and live a life of impact despite the challenges we face as military spouses.
