📣 Military families should NOT have to worry ab

📣 Military families should NOT have to worry about missing paychecks.  🤦‍♀️ They should NOT have to worry about defending our nation, WHILE worrying about whether they’ll be able to keep the lights on and pay their bills due to no fault of their own.  I’ve been sitting with a lot of feelings about the government shutdown — frustration, sadness, anger, concern. 
Military families have been here before, but this time feels different.  Because now we know the data:
* 1 in 4 active duty families already struggle with food insecurity
* 21% of military spouses are unemployed (rising to 38% if you include those not actively seeking work)
* Nearly 45% of working military spouses are underemployed
* 1 in 4 families has less than $500 in emergency savings 
And because, in this shutdown, their employer is currently planning NOT to pay military members on time.

So whether you are a part of a military family or not:

I heard a quote today that stuck with me.
Researchers once told teachers that certain students were “high performers.”   Guess what happened? Those students rose to the expectation. 
Meanwhile, when teachers were told they had “average students,” those students performed…average. 
What we’re told about our potential shapes how we show up. 
So if you’re doubting yourself today, let me be the voice that says: ✨ You are capable. ✨ You are powerful. ✨ You are more than enough.

Connection matters. But as a military spouse who

Connection matters.

But as a military spouse who works from home and sits behind a mic to record a podcast, I don’t spend a lot of time connecting in person.  That’s why the @militaryinfluencer Conference was so good for my soul. A chance to connect with those I already know, deepen relationships, cheer friends on, and make plenty of new connections.

We are better together. And this week was a great reminder of that!

As a military spouse who moves A LOT, most of my interactions are with people I’m just getting to know. Rarely do I spend time in person with people who have known me for any length of time.

It brought me so much joy when I had the chance to get lunch with these fellow milspouses. The Air Force brought us back together again after eight years of living all over the world!
